Children’s theatre at Tamworth Assembly Rooms including David Walliams’ Mr Stink

The recently reopened Tamworth Assembly Rooms is hosting two fantastic children’s shows this September, offering families the ultimate family-friendly entertainment.

The double header of children’s shows kicks off on Saturday, September 4th with Heartbreak Productions treating the audience to their comedic stage show of David Walliams best-selling children’s book, Mr Stink.

This will be followed later in the month by a show from the much-loved Horrible Histories team.

Having already sold out the open air theatre performance in May, Mr Stink tells the tale of a filthy old homeless man who lives on a park bench. His overwhelmingly, awful whiff doesn't stop a lonely 12 year old girl, Chloe Crumb, from making friends with him and his dog, and when it looks as though they may be run out of town, she knows she has to do something fast and hides them in the garden shed.

Audiences will be entertained by this hilarious production, which promises to deliver fun, humour and a heart-warming message – making it the perfect activity for a family afternoon out.

The show is suitable for children aged seven and over and lasts for approximately two hours, starting at 2pm.

Tickets are priced at £8, £10 and £32 for a family of four.

Youngsters are also being treated to a live stage show of Horrible Histories with the acclaimed production of Gorgeous Georgians and Vile Victorians making its way to the Assembly Rooms on Sunday, September 26th.

The interactive show will give children the chance to travel back in time and meet royalty, find out what a baby farmer did as well as party with Queen Victoria.

The performance is scheduled for a 2pm and 5pm showing with tickets costing £15 for adults and £13 for children and concessions.

Cllr Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “We’re delighted that we can put on some shows for our younger audiences in Tamworth.

“The coronavirus pandemic has been difficult for them as much as it has for everyone else and we’re excited that we can bring some cheer to our youth with these productions.”

Theatre, Artistic and Events Manager Adey Ramsel, said: “We’re excited to be bringing two top quality children’s productions to our Assembly Rooms.

“It’s a chance for youngsters to come down and experience the glamour and history of the Assembly Rooms while also watching something that’s fun, engaging, exciting and educational.”

Guests can take a break from the excitement of the productions by grabbing a quick bite from the Claymore Lounge café.

It will be open from 12 noon for the Mr Stink show and 11am-6pm for the Horrible Histories show. Otherwise, the lounge is open Tuesday-Friday from 8am-4pm and Saturdays from 10am-4pm.

The theatre café offers a varied and delicious menu to suit everyone’s hunger – from hot and cold drinks (including Starbucks coffee) to cakes, Paninis, jacket potatoes as well as having breakfast and lunch options.
