Prepare to be spooked at Tamworth Castle at Halloween 2019

Tamworth Castle will provide the perfect backdrop for creepy and bone-chilling entertainment over Halloween 2019 with family-friendly spooky activities on offer for people of all ages.

The week of ghostly goings on will take place between Saturday 26th October 2019 and Thursday 31st October 2019, with daytime activities for children from 10:30am until 3pm each day.

The ever popular Haunted Castle event invites families to encounter a series of creepy characters, as well as take part in a range of activities as they tour the castle.

They will meet cackling hags along the way, while Master Slaughter will attempt to steal some of their body parts! Only the bravest will leave without being scared.

The Halloween events will culminate in a late night ghost hunt on Thursday 31st October 2019. Visitors will be able to tour the castle and conduct candlelit vigils in rooms which, according to town legends, are haunted by an array of ghostly figures. Only a handful of tickets remain for this event, which must be booked in advance.

October is the perfect time to explore the historic castle and have fun finding out more about the myths and legends of Tamworth’s haunted past.

Historic reports of strange noises, furniture being moved and ghostly horses running around the castle all add to the air of mystery surrounding this ancient building.

The most famous ghostly encounter was with the ‘Black Lady’. Legend has it that in the 12th century, the 3rd Baron Marmion was visited by the ghost of the 9th century nun Editha, who had been expelled from Polesworth Abbey by the Baron’s ancestors. She told him that unless the nuns were allowed to worship at Polesworth Abbey again, the Baron would meet an untimely and painful death. Troubled by the vision, the Baron allowed the nuns to return to the abbey.
